Rouses Crawfish Eating Championship coming to Flora-Bama
How Fast Can You Pop A Tail?
More than 500 pounds of crawfish will be boiled for the Rouses Crawfish Eating World Championship scheduled to occur on Saturday, June 1st at the legendary Flora-Bama bar. Sanctioned by Major League Eating, the contest will feature top competitive eaters from as far away as London, Arizona and New York City. The current favorite is Adrian “The Rabbit” Morgan, an eater from New Orleans who is a two-time Rouses Crawfish Champion.
Rouses and Major League Eating presented six consecutive World Championship Crawfish Eating Contests before taking a three year hiatus to digest all that fantastic, boiled, Gulf Coast goodness. This year, the organizations are reuniting and putting the Crawfish Cup back on the line at the Flora-Bama, the world famous beach bar that straddles the border of Alabama and Florida.
“We’ll be in two states, but there is only one Crawfish Cup and it goes to only one eater, the man or woman who can suck the most meat from the shell in the least amount of time,” said Richard Shea, president of Major League Eating. “It’s going to be mind boggling to behold the physical greatness on display.”
Adrian Morgan, a resident of New Orleans and a two-time Rouses Crawfish Champion (2014 and 2015), will battle Darren Breeden, an oyster eating champion from Virginia; Michelle Lesco, an Arizona resident who is the #2 ranked female eater in the world, and Adam Moran, a professional eater from the United Kingdom who has never eaten crawfish in his life and who will likely get crushed. Crazy Legs Conti, a Major League Eating icon who was once buried alive under eight cubic feet of popcorn and ate his way to freedom, will also compete.
Rouses Markets will present two amateur contests before the professionals take the stage. The first undercard will occur at 11am and feature 10 Rouses customers. The second undercard will occur at 12pm and feature local celebrities. The professionals will battle for Rouse’s Crawfish Cup at 1pm. In addition to the priceless trophy, Rouses has announced a $2,000 prize purse for the professional round.
This contest will take place on Saturday, June 1st, 2019, at The Flora-Bama, 17401 Perdido Key Dr, Pensacola, FL 32507. For more information on Rouses Markets please visit https://www.rouses.com.
